Flooring Prices Explained: Carpet, LVP, Laminate & Hardwood

How much Flooring Costs | Carpet prices explained | LVP prices explained | Laminate pricing explained | Hardwood pricing explained

Any paying customer is going to ask, “how much is this going to cost me?” Despite feeling impossible to answer over the phone, it’s really not. Every flooring type has its own set of price ranges. Knowing about these price ranges upfront is a great way to shop smarter and have realistic expectations before we visit your home.

At Floors2Day, we bring flooring samples to homes across Southeastern Wisconsin and Illinois. During every consultation, you can expect transparent pricing. Let us break down what each flooring material will cost you.

Carpet

Cost: $3.75-$8.00+ Per Square Foot Installed

Carpet is the most affordable flooring option on the market. That said, prices can still vary. Value-level carpet can start as low as $3.75 per square foot while luxury carpet lines can push $8 or more per square foot. Most homeowners spend between $4 and $6 per square foot.

The final number goes beyond the carpet itself. Before providing a quote, we assess what the job requires. Do we need to move furniture or is there a heavy hutch that hasn’t moved in 30 years? Labor time adds to the cost. If we know about your space ahead of time, we can provide a more accurate estimate.

LVP and Laminate

Cost: $6 to $10 Per Square Foot Installed

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and laminate flooring take longer to install than carpet. Their price reflects this. Entry-level products start in the $6 to $7 per square foot range, but most homeowners spend $7 to $10 per square foot. Luxury options can climb as high as $12 to $14 per square foot installed, but are less common for residential projects.

Either way, you get a strong option at either price point. Whether you’re on a budget or looking for something high-end, there’s a product for you.

Hardwood

Cost: $10 to $20+ Per Square Foot Installed

Hardwood flooring is in a class of its own. Pricing comes down to the species you choose, its availability and if the product is sourced domestically or imported. Our team primarily works with prefinished hardwood, which is sanded and finished before reaching your home, streamlining the installation process.

Prefinished hardwood costs around $10 to $11 per square foot installed. Rarer or more exotic species can set you back over $20 per square foot installed. Considering hardwood? Start by having an honest conversation about which species makes sense for your space and budget.
