What Affects Flooring Project Costs?

What Affects Flooring Project Costs in Kenosha, WI

Flooring projects can get expensive fast. Why? You have to consider both materials and labor, but they aren’t the only parts that matter. There’s a huge difference between a ballpark number and an accurate quote that you don’t see from a store counter.

Today, we’re going to get into the costs of flooring projects. Here’s what Joe Brickman looks at when pricing out a Floors2Day project.

Why are Materials and Labor the Starting Point?

Every flooring project begins with the price of the flooring itself and the labor needed to install it. The product you choose also makes a difference whether you’re after carpet, LVP, hardwood, laminate or tile. Some materials take longer than others and this is taken into account.

So materials and labor are laid out on the table, what’s next? Let’s get into the condition of the space.

What’s the Condition of the Area?

This is where project prices start to change. A lot of companies get caught off guard by not doing their homework upfront. When assessing an installation area, Joe assesses the following:

  • Furniture Moving: Is it needed? Who’s doing it?
  • Existing Flooring Removal: Is there carpet, tile or old hardwood that needs to come out first?
  • Subfloor Condition: After removing the existing flooring, what are we working with underneath?
  • Levelness: For hard surface flooring, is the subfloor level enough to install on? If not, self-leveling compound may be needed before a single plank goes down.

Each of these factors impacts the scope of the job. None are surprises if you’ve actually been in the space beforehand.

Why Can’t You Get an Accurate Quote From a Store?

Here’s an example of a scenario that plays out more than it should. A homeowner visits a flooring store in Kenosha and says, “I’ve got a room that’s 10×12 and another that’s 13×18. The subfloor’s in good shape. Just need the carpet torn out and new floors put in.” They get a number, book the job and don’t have a second thought.

When installation day rolls around, the crew sees the space for the first time. The subfloor has a dip that needs leveling, furniture wasn’t moved and there’s an old glue-down underneath the carpet that needs to be removed. Suddenly, the homeowner is paying more than they thought they would and feels like the company came up short.

Nobody lied, not nobody looked, either.

What Does Our Shop-at-Home Model Get Right?

When Joe visits your home, he brings samples and is doing the work to prevent any surprises. After you decide on your flooring, he will assess your space and identify anything that could affect the job.

The information collected before installation day goes directly into the proposal. The quote you receive is based on the conditions of your home, not a best-case assumption made from across the sales counter.

The end result is fewer installation issues and less unexpected costs showing up mid-job. When a crew shows up on installation day knowing what to expect, it’s because everyone is on the same page from the start.

What Does This Mean for Your Project?

A quote built on assumptions and a quote built on an in-home assessment aren’t the same thing — even if the numbers look similar on paper. That’s why Joe visits each Floors2Day customer at home. There’s no guessing or what-ifs, just an honest number based on what your project actually involves.
